In order to lawfully own a gun in Illinois you must have a Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID card) issued to you and your gun must be registered. In order to lawfully be able to carry your gun with you outside of your home or business, you need additional permits like a Conceal and Carry permit. If found with a gun in your possession without being able to show your permits for them can result in jail time.
